Embark on a visual journey through the 19th century in South Florida as LRHS Historian Josh Liller presents the earliest known photos of Palm Beach County. Join us as we delve into the remarkable work of lighthouse keepers Fredrick Whitehead and Melville Spencer, who captured historic images between 1876 and 1884.
Highlights of the History Presentation:
- Witness the rare photographs depicting the lighthouse, steamboats, tourists, pioneers, wildlife, and the pristine Loxahatchee River.
- Learn about the significance of these images and their preservation as part of the HSPBC Spencer-Peebles Collection.
- Explore the Gladwin Family Collection, home to the largest known assemblage of these captivating “stereoviews.”
